Been hanging out with a few WordPress.org hackers — Scott, Nacin, and Otto — the last few days in a BBQ-fueled haze of hacking to make plugin directory better. There are over 19,000 plugins listed and they’re really the heart and soul of WordPress for many people, so they deserve a little tender loving care. Here’s a quick before and after snapshot you can zoom in on to see a visual overview of some of the changes:

Our first focus was around improving the discussion and support around plugins.
You’ll now notice that threads about a plugin are pulled directly into a “support” tab on the plugin page — each plugin has its own forum. We’ve made authors much more prominent and with bigger Gravatars and better placement, so you can get a sense of who made the plugin you’re using. And finally to show how active and well-supported a plugin is, you can see ”16 of 75 support threads in the last two weeks have been resolved.” Finally, if you’re logged in you get access to the new “favorites” feature that lets you mark the plugins you use the most so you can share them on your profile page and find them quickly later. We soft-launched favorites a few days ago and there have already been 2,000 saved!
If you’re a plugin author, we’ve started with a short threshold (2 weeks) for the resolved stats so it’s easy to catch up and stay on top of it. (It’ll eventually go to two months.) You also now have the ability to set stickies on your plugin forum to put FAQs or important information at the top, and of course any person you put as a committer on the plugin will have moderation access. People on the forum tag will see your custom header and links to the other resources attached to your plugin.
We’ve tightened up the styling a bit on the forums and plugin pages, though still some cleanups to do there. Some older improvements you might have missed, but are still useful for users and developers alike:

“Plugin headers” or those cool graphics you see at the top of plugin pages have really taken off, there are over 1,600 active now.
You can now subscribe to get an email whenever a commit is made to a plugin repository even if it isn’t yours. There is no better way to follow the development of your favorite plugins. There’s nothing like the smell of fresh changesets in the morning.
Behind the scenes, we’ve dramatically ramped up proactive scanning of the entire repository to help authors fix security and other problems they might not even know about yet. The quality level of the repo has gone way, way up.

All of this will continue to evolve as we get feedback and see usage, but we’re happy to have been able to make some key improvements in just a few days while hanging out in Memphis. (This is why WordCamps usually have BBQ — it imparts magical coding powers.)

Each year, the WordPress core development team meets in person for a week to work together and discuss the vision for WordPress in the coming year. As annual events go, it’s easily my favorite. Don’t get me wrong, I love attending WordCamps and local WordPress meetups (which are awesome and you should try to attend if you are able), but at the core team meetup, the focus on working together and getting things done is unique, as is the experience of every person in the room being so highly qualified. This year, instead of just planning a core team meetup, I’m aiming a little higher and shooting for a full-on contributor/community summit.
Core code isn’t the only way to contribute to the WordPress project. We have an active theme review team, support forum volunteers, people writing documentation, plugin managers, community event organizers, translators, and more. The teams have been siloed for too long, so we’ve recently begun the process of bringing them together by having teams elect representatives to facilitate more communication between the contributor groups. These reps will form the nucleus of the contributor summit now being planned for a long weekend at the end of October in Tybee Island, GA. This is completely different from a WordCamp. It will be a combination of co-working, unconference, and discussions among the project leaders, and participation will be by invitation.
In addition to bringing together the active contributor team reps to work together, I think it’s important to include community members who don’t fall into that category (at least not yet!). Successful WordPress-based business, authors of popular plugins and themes, and people using WordPress in unexpected but intriguing ways should have a place at the table, too. That said, part of the magic of the core team meetup is the small size; it allows every voice not only to be heard, but to engage. Since this is my first attempt at bringing together so many groups and points of view, I want to try and keep it small enough to retain that personal atmosphere while at the same time ensuring that the best possible mix of people and businesses in the WordPress ecosystem is represented. This is where you come in!
Taking a cue from events with limited availability like AdaCamp (attendance) and the jQuery conference (speaker roster), I want you to nominate people and/or WordPress-based businesses to participate in the summit. Yes, you can nominate yourself.* You can nominate up to 10 additional people — be prepared to provide URLs and the reason you think they should participate. You can also nominate up to 10 WordPress-based businesses without naming individual people, so if there’s a theme or hosting company (for example) that you think should be there, you don’t need to go looking for employee names. This nomination process will hopefully ensure that we don’t overlook someone who is making a difference in our community when it comes time to issue invitations.
Nominations will be open for a week, after which the survey will be closed and the process of analyzing the results** will begin. The nominations process will lead to invitations in June, confirmations in July, planning in August and September, and the summit itself in October. Hopefully we can stream and/or record some of the activity to share online at WordPress.tv. Additional invitations may be extended up until the event if there are people/businesses that become more active in the community. If you’re thinking to yourself that maybe now’s the perfect time to start contributing time to the WordPress project, good thinking! In the meantime, if you want to weigh in, fill in the community summit nomination form. Thanks, and wish us luck!
* Nominating yourself: Do nominate yourself if you fall into one of the categories described in the post above, or if you believe that you have a unique point of view. Please do not nominate yourself if you just think it would be cool to hang out with this group. This is a working event, and everyone is expected to bring something special to the table.
** I (and/or a helpful community volunteer) will sift through the nominations and compile a shortlist of the most-nominated people/businesses and the most intriguing underdogs. This list will be reviewed by the summit planning committee (made up of team reps) to create the invitation list.

WordPress 3.3.2 is available now and is a security update for all previous versions.
Three external libraries included in WordPress received security updates:

Plupload (version 1.5.4), which WordPress uses for uploading media.
SWFUpload, which WordPress previously used for uploading media, and may still be in use by plugins.
SWFObject, which WordPress previously used to embed Flash content, and may still be in use by plugins and themes.

Thanks to Neal Poole and Nathan Partlan for responsibly disclosing the bugs in Plupload and SWFUpload, and Szymon Gruszecki for a separate bug in SWFUpload.
WordPress 3.3.2 also addresses:

Limited privilege escalation where a site administrator could deactivate network-wide plugins when running a WordPress network under particular circumstances, disclosed by Jon Cave of our WordPress core security team, and Adam Backstrom.
Cross-site scripting vulnerability when making URLs clickable, by Jon Cave.
Cross-site scripting vulnerabilities in redirects after posting comments in older browsers, and when filtering URLs. Thanks to Mauro Gentile for responsibly disclosing these issues to the security team.

These issues were fixed by the WordPress core security team. Five other bugs were also fixed in version 3.3.2. Consult the change log for more details.
Download WordPress 3.3.2 or update now from the Dashboard → Updates menu in your site’s admin area.

WordPress 3.4 Beta 3 also available
Our development of WordPress 3.4 development continues. Today we are proud to release Beta 3 for testing. Nearly 90 changes have been made since Beta 2, released 9 days ago. (We are aiming for a beta every week.)
This is still beta software, so we don’t recommend that you use it on production sites. But if you’re a plugin developer, a theme developer, or a site administrator, you should be running this on your test environments and reporting any bugs you find. (See the known issues here.) If you’re a WordPress user who wants to open your presents early, take advantage of WordPress’s famous 5-minute install and spin up a secondary test site. Let us know what you think!
Version 3.4 Beta 3 includes all of the fixes included in version 3.3.2. Download WordPress 3.4 Beta 3 or use the WordPress Beta Tester plugin.
MyBB Merge System 1.6.7 is now available on the MyBB website and is a maintenance update to the MyBB Merge 1.6 series.
This release is to ensure that all users of MyBB Merge 1.6 have the latest fixes.
This release fixes several reported issues since the release of 1.6.3, which caused some incorrect functionality of the Merge System. These bugs have been fixed to provide a more stable version of the Merge System for public use.
What’s new in this version?

3 bug fixes (view all)
Version jump to 1.6.7 from 1.6.3 to match the current MyBB Version. From now on we’ll do our best to keep these in sync.

This includes some critical fixes for phpBB that caused infinite loops.
MyBB Mascot Update

We recently held our MyBB Mascot Naming Contest. Many community members proposed names and after a week a poll with the top names was put up. After another week of voting, the name “Bolt”, after MyBB founder Chris Boulton, was chosen. Proposed by Mebes Net, we of the MyBB Team feels this name conveys the strength and speed of MyBB very effectively.
We are proud to present to you the MyBB Mascot, Bolt!
MyBB 1.8 – The Bridge to 2.0
Everyone here at MyBB are proud to announce the impending arrival of our next major feature release – MyBB 1.8.
Over the last 2 months we’ve been developing in secret at our Github lair, plotting to once again attempt to take over the forum world with our evil plans and awesome free software and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of DevBB – our supreme overlord predecessor.
1.8 isn’t as big of an overhaul as 1.2, 1.4 or 1.6 upgrades which introduced more than 100 features; this is more of a facelift. We took Justin, our lead designer, and locked him in a room with nothing but bacon and water until he came up with a new default theme which is taken from one of (if not the) most popular theme collections used by MyBB communities across the world; his Apart series. That’s not all – we developed attachable base colours to themes so that creating (and using) multi-coloured themes no longer involve adding 14 separate styles. You add just one. A new default theme for your Admin Control Panel (ACP) is available too.
For more than half of MyBB’s rule of the forum world, our JavaScript has been powered by Prototype. It was a popular library when we started using it but it has fallen behind a more powerful (and popular) rival and so we’ve consigned it to MyBB history; MyBB 1.8 is powered by jQuery.
Two of the most requested features for MyBB will also be heading to 1.8. With our switch to jQuery, along comes a new post editor (yet to be decided) and a Trash Can – or more the ability to recover deleted posts via the Mod CP.
Along with the regular bug fixes and a host of other planned improvements, such as an APC cache handler, being able to make a cup of hot cocoa, separating the plugin list to active/inactive, making some functions a bit easier to use and projecting your forum’s logo onto the face of the Moon, we’ll be working with MyBB gurus to improve performance, plugin integrations and we’re looking into making the authentication to 3rd party software much easier too with a dedicated login datahandler. It doesn’t have to be just gurus though; we’ll be opening up 1.8 to everyone on Github so that they too can fork, improve, update and become one with the MyBB Team.
We’re all very excited about this release and hope you are too! More information will be coming soon but in the mean time please feel free to suggest more improvements in our Suggestions and Feedback Forum!
Thanks,

Dennis Tsang has been with the team for a long time, playing numerous important roles and having a lot of input over the years. He took some time to answer your questions!
Being one of the more active, long-time members, what keeps you coming back to MyBB?
MyBB is so easy to work with. The core is easy to understand and use; it’s lean and lightweight. It’s simple to customize. In terms of the community, it’s the perfect size where people can get to know each other and help each other out. There are wonderful developers and themers who produce awesome themes.
Other than MyBB, what are some of your hobbies?
I volunteer with a couple of youth groups, namely youth ministry at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Vancouver, B.C. I am on the council of the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Youth Leadership Millennium Program.
I am a transit enthusiast and photographer. I love buses and trains. My transit photography can be found at BusTrainFerry.com.
What is it about public transport that you’re so interested in?
I’m most interested in the systems behind public transit operations. For example, here in Vancouver we have a metro line called the SkyTrain, which is fully automated. The automation has intrigued me since I was young and I’ve been trying to figure out how it all works. The vehicles themselves (both buses and trains) are also an interest of mine — the skill required by operators to maneuver the buses through traffic is astounding.
What is your favourite movie?
The Matrix.
Are you as excited about MyBB as you first were about it?
Yes of course. The advent of MyBB 2.0 is very exciting as it’s the first rewrite we’ve done since the inception of the project itself. The web has changed very dramatically in the past few years from both technical and social standpoints. MyBB 2.0 will hopefully take forum software to the next level by harnessing new concepts and technologies and making a usable package in the age of Web 2.0 and beyond, while still maintaining our core roots of powerfulness, simplicity, and extensibility.
What career do you hope to achieve after completion of your course?
Later this year I will be starting as a software developer at A Thinking Ape. Software has always been an interest of mine, and that’s why I went into Computer Science. My particular interests are in mobile and web technologies.
The best day of your life was…
The day I was born.
In your opinion, what is the most underused feature of MyBB?
Threaded Mode on the show thread page. I’ve never used it. Do you use it?
How long can you hold your breath for?
At least the length of the George Massey Tunnel.
Anything else you’d like to add?
It’s been a pleasure to be on the MyBB team. It’s always enjoyable to see people who use our software and love MyBB as much as we as staff do.

Get your questions answered
They can be general to all/any staff or specific to one member, either way, post them in the Questions for team members thread and I’ll ask them if appropriate. A lot of staff have been answering questions in the thread too, so it’s a great ‘open discussion’ thread too! Thank you.

WordPress 3.4 is ready for beta testers!
As always, this is software still in development and we don’t recommend that you run it on a production site — set up a test site just to play with the new version. If you break it (find a bug), please report it, and if you’re a developer, try to help us fix it.
If all goes well, we hope to release WordPress 3.4 in May. The more help we get with testing and fixing bugs, the sooner we will be able to release the final version. If you want to be a beta tester, you should check out the Codex article on how to report bugs.
Here’s some of what’s new:

Theme Customizer with Previewer
Flexible Custom Header Sizes
Selecting Custom Header and Background Images from Media Library
Better experience searching for and choosing a theme

And some of the under-the-hood changes:

New XML-RPC API for external and mobile applications
New API for registering theme support for custom headers and backgrounds
Performance improvements to WP_Query by splitting the query (Please test!)
Internationalization improvements (improved performance and locale support)
Performance and API improvements when working with lists of installed themes
Support for installing child themes from the WordPress Themes Directory

Remember, if you find something you think is a bug, report it! You can bring it up in the alpha/beta forum, you can email it to the wp-testers list, or if you’ve confirmed that other people are experiencing the same bug, you can report it on the WordPress Core Trac. (We recommend starting in the forum or on the mailing list.)
Theme and plugin authors, if you haven’t been following the 3.4 development cycle, please start now so that you can update your themes and plugins to be compatible with the newest version of WordPress.
If you haven’t seen this or not upgraded yet please make sure you read the MyBB and Merge System 1.6.7 Release blog post. We also announced our plans for MyBB 1.8; it was no April Fool.
Back in 2010, just under 2 years ago, we released MyBB 1.6 which introduced over 40 new features – some more at home in commercial software. As MyBB’s popularity continues to grow, the rise of social networks, rival software and the greater expectations of users old and new gives us some of the hardest challenges we’ve faced; to stay on top, to deliver a brilliant product and provide it to you for free.
With our development roadmap for MyBB 2.0 getting underway soon, we quickly felt the need to bridge the large gap that would have been 1.6 to 2.0. We wanted to create something that would provide a legacy to users of the 1.x series – the best of the best – and there was only one way we could get that to our users; MyBB 1.8.
What You Can Expect From 1.8
Whereas 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 delivered over 100 new features 1.8 aims to be more of a subtle upgrade, a facelift and a move to more open source development so that others too can help create the best free forum software. We’ll of course be providing the usual bug fixes and working with large forum owners to see if we can help further improve performance and stability. MyBB 1.8 is a perfect chance for us to provide changes that we couldn’t typically do within our maintenance cycles.
A New Look
When we announced our new logo and mascot, Bolt, the Team soon realised that we didn’t want to wait until 2.0 was released to use them. The 1.6 default theme made these look out of place in its dated design (which was last updated in 2008) so we needed something more up to date. Justin, our lead designer, who created the Apart theme series (from which many MyBB communities either use or have customised the look for themselves) has worked on developing the series for the new 1.8 default theme. We worked together to figure out a method for enabling the Apart colours to be included by default but without the need for including 14 separate themes before the administrator even opened their forum. This method is what we call attachable base colours.

These changes to the theme system allow you to create colours to which you can attach stylesheets (just like you can attach stylesheets to pages). You can also set a display order for all your stylesheets so that they can override styles. Together, the changes mean you can add a theme with as many custom colours as you want. Using the parent/child theme structure that already exists in 1.x you can restrict or allow certain usergroups to use these colours and, as they inherit the main stylesheets, they’re very easy to manage. So, there is no longer the need to install a dozen different themes just for a different colour header.
A New Look Admin Control Panel (ACP)
Along with the new default theme there needs to be a new look Admin Control Panel (ACP). Our ACP is regarded as one of the easiest to use; it’s friendly and we didn’t want to change it much. Instead, we gave it a similar Apart makeover to our front-end.

Please note that along with the default theme the look may change as development continues.
Powered by jQuery
While 1.8 won’t be able to make your cocoa or project your forum’s logo onto the moon, much to our disappointment, we really weren’t pulling a prank on this one; MyBB 1.8 will be powered by jQuery. The lighter and more powerful JavaScript library should be able to extend what both Theme Artists and Plugin Developers are able to do without causing conflicts or heavy loading pages. Both front-end and back-end will use the library. This change is probably the most destructive for themes and plugins in the 1.8 upgrade and we’ll be providing support throughout its beta period ready for a main release. In total, including the changes to the default theme, about 20 templates require updating from 1.6.
Along with jQuery comes a change in post editor. Although I’ve had my eye on an ‘off the shelf’ editor for quite some time we’ve yet to make a decision on whether we write our own or not; we’ll be covering that in a future tour. However, please don’t suggest which editor to use as our aim is to make it interchangeable so you can use your favourite one.
Trash Can
One of the most requested features for MyBB is a trash can – or as I prefer, the ability to recover deleted posts. In 1.8, you’ll be able to decide if a user’s deleted post is obliterated forever or is recoverable via the Mod CP. Global and usergroup permissions will allow this to be controlled across your users.
Spam Improvements
For those of you waiting for Spam Ninja I’m very sorry to disappoint as I did promise it to you last year. As soon as 1.8 was decided, I stopped developing it as a plugin and started integrating relevant parts into the core instead. We’ll be looking to improve spam prevention and detection in 1.8 which we’ll cover in a future tour.
Upgrading to 1.8
Upgrading to 1.8 will be similar to upgrading from 1.4 to 1.6; many plugins will only need to change their compatibility line and will only need some major changes if they use Prototype JavaScript, use login functions or make large theme changes. Throughout the beta period, we’ll be upgrading the Wiki with new information and providing support to plugin developers to help them with their new plugins.
Github
The Team has been trying to plan a move away from our current SVN setup to the popular social coding site Github for some time. We’ve come up against problems but feel confident that now is the time to open up our development to people outside of the MyBB Team. Github can be an extremely powerful tool for development and it is something we’re eager to do – we have been working on 1.8 in secret in one of our repositories there which will be made available after our first beta release.
We’ve gone outside of our usual box with 1.8 in that we’re actually telling you what we’re doing and what we’re planning even though none of this is public. We’re aiming to provide a beta of 1.8 in May so please be patient while we’re polishing our development and removing all the takeaways and soft drink cans.
Wrap
With MyBB 1.8, our aim is to fully complete the series with features and improvements that make us a better rival not only to our free forum software friends but also to commercial community software too. We want to make it more friendly, faster and go further than any of our products have been before. Everyone here at MyBB is looking forward to 1.8 and hope you are too!
See you at the next tour!
Reporting MyBB security vulnerabilities
If you think you’ve found a vulnerability in MyBB, we advise you not to publicly post it on these forums or publicly release information about it elsewhere until we’ve had time to prepare and release a patch.
As always, you can send through security related messages on the MyBB website from the Contact Us page or in our Private Inquiries forum – where you can start a new thread that only you and the MyBB Team can see.
MyBB Merge System 1.6.7

Thanks,
MyBB Team
Thanks,
MyBB Team

The joke’s on you!
When we announced the impending release of MyBB 1.8 on April 1st, we were dead serious. We promised you a MyBB release and we’re here to give you one.
To start, here’s a quick history of what led up to our decision to have a 1.8.
Some 6 years ago, MyBB released its first major update: 1.2. It introduced some of the features we’ve come to expect – AJAX, RSS, Super Administrators, Multi Quote, Hooks, Datahandlers and much more as well as standardized development. Fast forward 2 years and 1.4 makes its debut bringing with it over 70 new features and a brand new Admin Control Panel (ACP) that we still all use today.
MyBB’s popularity soared. Our users wanted more and some of the fundamental parts of our community changed; we opened up our closed development circle; we changed to an open sourced license; we passed an industry-standard security audit and we improved our merge system to help users convert to MyBB. Many would argue that 1.4 was possibly the most popular time to be with the MyBB community.
Moving on to 2010 and a little under 2 years ago, MyBB 1.6 was available to the world. With more than 40 new features (including moderator usergroups, thread prefixes, search private messages, select all threads in a forum, clearer forum permissions, updating attachments and file verification) MyBB was, for the first time, a real contender to commercial forum software. It was a massive leap for us as a group and MyBB’s popularity continued to grow.
But today, in 2012, the world is a very different place for forum software. We have to grow alongside the rise of social networks, new kids on the block and, most importantly, our users. While our development roadmap for MyBB 2.0 is getting underway, literally starting a new piece of software, we felt the need to bridge the large gap that would have been 1.6 to 2.0. We wanted to create something that would provide a legacy to users of the 1.x series – the best of the best – and so the Team gathered in a dark lair somewhere to plot our next major feature upgrade; MyBB 1.8.
What You Can Expect From 1.8
We haven’t done a massive overhaul or anything on the level that 1.2, 1.4 or 1.6 delivered. MyBB 1.8 is more of a subtle upgrade, a facelift and a move into even more open source development so that others can help create the best free forum software.
A New Look
Earlier in the year we announced a new mascot and our new logo – to be worked with alongside 2.0. The Team soon realised that we didn’t want to wait until then; we wanted to use it now. But it just looked out of place in our default design (which was from 2008) – we needed something up to date, something good and something that personified MyBB; we needed a new look.
To the rescue came Justin, our lead designer. Justin created one of (if not the) most popular theme collections used by MyBB communities across the world; the Apart series. Simple, effective, stylish and with plenty of colors to choose from it was like free never tasted so good. We decided this must be it. MyBB needed the Apart series – but the dilemma was do users need 12 different themes before they even opened their community? The Theme system needed a re-think.
So, in MyBB 1.8, you can expect a new look – one that you decide from the entire Apart collection. We’ve added base colors to themes so that you can attach different stylesheets to different colors (just like you can attach stylesheets to different files and actions) as well as the ability to place stylesheets in a particular order. In simple terms, there is no longer the need for 12 different themes just for a different color. Using the parent/child structure in our Theme system, you can provide your users with as many options as you want with a single theme. This is how the new default theme works.
A New Admin Control Panel
>
A New Website
>
Powered by jQuery
For more than half a decade, MyBB’s JavaScript has been powered by Prototype and Script.aculo.us and has worked just as we’ve expected it to. It was the most popular JavaScript library when we started using it, however, it has fallen behind a more powerful (and popular) rival that is fast becoming an industry standard; jQuery.
As more and more Theme Artists are using it in their work, we thought it would be easier if we updated 1.8′s JavaScript and replace Prototype with jQuery. This should provide a lighter library for MyBB to work with and further extends what both themes and plugins are able to do. The jQuery version of 1.8 won’t be available straight away, but we’re working on it! Of course, what that does mean is a new Editor too. Expect more information about this in the near future.
Trash Can
One of the most requested features for MyBB is a trash can – the ability to recover deleted posts. Although we feel MyBB’s moderation features provide a better alternative to this, we can see why our users want this to happen and so have provided ‘soft delete’ facility in 1.8 in which you can decide if a user’s deleted post is obliterated forever or is recoverable via the Mod CP.
General Improvements
As well as the usual bug fixes we’ve made some general improvements to some areas of our software. These include things like separating the plugin list to active/inactive plugins, adding an APC cache handler and making some functions a bit easier to use.
>
A Move to Github
We’ve been trying to plan a move away from our current SVN setup to the popular social coding site Github for some time. We’ve come up against problems but feel confident that now is the time to open up our development to people outside of the MyBB team. Github can be an extremely powerful tool for development and it is something we’re eager to do – all of 1.8′s development has happened there already in one of repositories and will be available when 1.8 Gold is released.

The South by Southwest Interactive Festival (SXSW) holds a special place in the history and heart of WordPress. Though the conference has changed in the years since I first met Matt in the hallway in 2003 — before WordPress even had a name — it’s still arguably one of the most influential events in our industry, and we’ll be there again this year. Will we see you there?
Booth
There will be a WordPress booth at the SXSW trade show March 12-15. Our booth was packed to overflowing last year as we helped people with their blogs and gave away WordPress swag, so this year we’ll have more space to meet as many of you as possible. Stop by if you need a helping hand with your site, or just to say hi. We’ll also have buttons, stickers, and t-shirts again this year.
Party
This year’s WordPress party will be hosted by the WordPress Foundation on Monday, March 12 from 6-9pm. Space is limited, so make sure you RSVP (no SXSW badge is required). The party this year will be at the Buzzmedia Pure Volume House, and the story of how we hooked up with them is pretty cool.
Once upon a time, David Wang had a business called Buzzmedia in Malaysia, with the twitter username @buzzmedia. When David changed gears and started ClickWP, a WordPress support business, he stopped going by the Buzzmedia name. In the U.S., a company also called Buzzmedia wished it had that Twitter username, and asked if they could have it since David wasn’t going to use it anymore.
David, feeling the WordPress community love, said he would give them the name, and suggested they do something in return for the WordPress Foundation. So, everyone talked to everyone else and it worked out that Buzzmedia was willing to donate a fantastic venue for this year’s party as well as covering the bar.
In the end, the Foundation got a great SXSW party, Buzzmedia got their twitter username, and David got the warm glow of having used his power for the good of the WordPress community, and they all lived happily ever after.
Seriously, though, the PureVolume House is always a great SXSW venue, so thank you David and Buzzmedia for your generosity! We’ll have drinks and snacks and a few hundred WordPress-loving partygoers, so you know it will be a good time. Kind of like a WordCamp afterparty without all the work of a WordCamp.
The venue can hold 500 people, and based on last year, we’ll hit that pretty quickly. The one requirement is that you use WordPress. On the RSVP form, you will be asked to enter the URL of your WordPress-powered site (if you have more than one, just pick your main site). If you fill in this field with something other than what’s requested (such as “N/A” or putting in a fake url) your RSVP may be deleted, so please make sure to enter your real site.

A warning to anyone using any of the various Google Translation Plugins. They will no longer work. Google has disabled the Translation API v1 due to abuse. Someone may write new ones using the new v2 API, however that is a paid service.
You can read more about it here:
http://code.google.com/apis/language/tra...rview.html
I’ve gone ahead and disabled all of the mods on our mods site that are using the v1 API (That I know of anyways), so anything on the mods site should be using v2. If you find one I missed, please respond in this thread with which ones, and a Staff member will take care of it.
Thank you,

MyBB Merge System 1.6.3 is now available on the MyBB website and is a maintenance update to the MyBB Merge 1.6 series.
This release is to ensure that all users of MyBB Merge 1.6 have the latest fixes.
This release fixes several reported issues since the release of 1.6.2, which caused some incorrect functionality of the Merge System. These bugs have been fixed to provide a more stable version of the Merge System for public use.
What’s fixed in this version?

7 bug fixes (view all)

This includes some critical fixes for things that will cause the system to catastrophically fail.
NOTE: After this release the merge system will jump to match MyBB’s version. So when MyBB 1.6.7 is released, MyBB Merge System 1.6.7 will be released with it. We’re going to try very hard to use that scheme from now on.
As always, you can send through security related messages on the MyBB website from the Contact Us page.
Thank you,

A few days ago we released version 1.6.6, unfortunately we have since realized that the version released was a newer SVN revision than intended, and as a result contains some development code that may compromise the stability of your board.
Please note that this is not a security issue, and we are not aware of any security implications arising from the release.
The issue was rectified shortly after the release and only the main release was effected, not the changed files package.
We advise anyone who used the full release package within the first 24 hours of its release to run the file verification tool in their admin control panel (Tools & Maintenance > File Verification). If any files show differences which are not manual file modifications they should be replaced with files from the current version of the release package.
Thank you,
